Exploring the Moors & More…
The North York Moors National Park is one of the finest areas of countryside in the British Isles. Covering 554 square miles (1,436 square km), it stretches from the plunging crags and whaleback moors of the Hambleton and Cleveland Hills to the rocky bays and headlands of the North Sea Coast. In between it embraces the largest expanse of heather moorland in England, countless acres of rolling farmland, and some of our most beautiful pastoral dales. Where else can you find such an amazing variety of scenery in one area?
Walking & Hiking
The Mallyan has a number of walking books and maps, not to mention the wealth of local knowledge amongst our team. With deep forested valleys and open rolling moorlands, superb waterfalls and picturesque farmsteads, Goathland has many hidden treasures and there is no better way to discover them than on foot.
Make sure you wear stout shoes and a waterproof wherever you walk in the country, as paths can be muddy and the weather unpredictable. You should avoid walking on the moorland in bad weather, especially when misty. Paths besides streams can sometimes be flooded after heavy rain, and the rocky riverside path to Mallyan Spout in particular requires care at any time of year.
